The restoration of the Grade II listed Camellia House at Wentworth Woodhouse required a shading approach that delivered visitor comfort but also protected its rare, historic camellia bushes from excessive sunlight. Silent Gliss supplied high-performance shading systems to transform this space into a modern dining and events venue, meeting both conservation needs and visitor requirements.
Silent Gliss motorised skylight systems SG 8600 are a discreet shading solution to regulate sunlight and manage heat gain through the vast glazed roof. Complementing this, chain-operated decorative roman blinds are installed on the windows. This layered shading choice delivers a softer, elegant touch whilst still providing subtle glare control for guests throughout the day.
Having reopened as a light-filled tearoom offering views across the orchard, Camellia House has won major awards, including the Architects’ Journal AJ100 Community Impact Award. This project has breathed new life into a previously derelict building, creating an inclusive space that supports local communities, training and employment.
Silent Gliss is pleased to have contributed with internal shading to the successful restoration of this significant heritage site.
